Beyond Google: Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and the listings that matter

Google isn't the only map. Why Bing Places and Apple's business listings matter more in the AI era, and whether to sync your Google profile into Bing.

Short answer

Claim both. Bing Places controls how you appear in Bing and, through Bing, in Microsoft Copilot, and Bing is widely understood to be one of the search sources behind ChatGPT. Apple's business listings (Apple Business Connect, now part of Apple Business) control your Apple Maps and Siri place card. Syncing your Google Business Profile into Bing Places is a good shortcut, as long as your Google profile is accurate first.

Most local businesses spend all their listing energy on Google. That made sense for a long time. But in 2026, the question "who's the best electrician near me?" gets asked in more places: Apple Maps on an iPhone, Copilot in Windows and Edge, ChatGPT, and voice assistants. Each one reads from its own listing data. If you've never claimed your Bing or Apple listings, someone else's data is describing your business there, or nothing is. And if you have, the next question is usually: should I sync Google Business Profile with Bing Places, or manage them separately?

The good news: both take about an afternoon to set up, both are free, and Bing will even import your Google profile for you. Here's what each one controls, whether syncing is a good idea, and what else is worth your time.

Why listings beyond Google matter now

For years, Bing and Apple Maps were "nice to have." Two things changed that.

AI assistants lean on search engines other than Google. Microsoft's documentation says Copilot sends web search queries to the Bing search service to ground its answers. OpenAI says ChatGPT search uses third-party search providers without naming them all, and Microsoft said back in 2023 that Bing would be the default search experience in ChatGPT. We'd treat Bing as one of the most likely sources, not a proven pipeline for every ChatGPT answer.

Apple keeps putting its business data in more places. Apple Maps place cards show up in Maps, Siri and other parts of the iPhone. DuckDuckGo has used Apple Maps for its map and address searches since 2019. And in 2026, Apple rolled its business tools into one platform (more on that below).

Bing Places, which can import from Google, feeds Bing search, Bing Maps, Copilot and likely ChatGPT, since OpenAI does not name all its search providers. Apple Business, formerly Business Connect, feeds Apple Maps, Siri, Wallet and Mail, and DuckDuckGo maps. Bing Places: what it controls

Bing Places for Business is Microsoft's equivalent of Google Business Profile. Your listing there drives:

  • Local results and maps in Bing search
  • Bing Maps
  • Business details that Microsoft's products, including Copilot, can draw on when they search Bing

The listing itself is familiar: name, address, phone, website, hours, categories, photos. If you've filled out a Google profile, nothing here will surprise you.

Should I sync Google Business Profile with Bing Places?

Bing Places lets you import your listings from Google Business Profile, and it has offered an ongoing sync with Google since 2019. A Bing Places support specialist described two modes: a manual sync for smaller businesses and scheduled automatic syncs for linked listings. The same answer noted a key catch: changes in Google overwrite your Bing Places data, and some fields don't always come across cleanly, such as categories or address formatting.

So, should you sync? Usually yes, with conditions.

Sync whenManage Bing separately when
Your Google profile is accurate and currentYour Google profile has errors you haven't fixed
You have several locations to keep alignedYou've customized Bing details you don't want overwritten
Nobody has time to update two dashboardsYour Google profile is suspended or under review
You're creating a Bing listing for the first timeYou have duplicate listings to clean up first

Our rule of thumb: fix Google first, then sync. Syncing a messy profile just copies the mess. After the first import, open your Bing listing and check the category, address lines, phone number and hours by hand. Then set a reminder to spot-check it every few months, because a sync you can't see is a sync you'll forget about.

While you're in the Microsoft world, set up Bing Webmaster Tools for your website too. You can import your site from Google Search Console in a few clicks. It's the website side of the same picture, and we explain why it matters for AI answers in how to show up in ChatGPT answers.

Apple Business Connect is now Apple Business

If you've heard of Apple Business Connect, that's the tool businesses used to claim and edit their Apple Maps place cards. On March 24, 2026, Apple announced Apple Business, a single platform that combines Apple Business Connect with Apple Business Manager and Apple Business Essentials. It launched April 14, 2026, in more than 200 countries and regions.

For local visibility, the important parts are:

  • It's free. Apple only charges for optional add-ons like extra iCloud storage and AppleCare+.
  • Place cards on Apple Maps with your details, photos and what Apple calls showcases for promotions or news.
  • Consistent branding of your name and logo across Apple Maps, Wallet, Mail, Siri and more.
  • Location insights about how people find and interact with your place card.
  • Maps ads are coming. Apple said businesses in the US and Canada would be able to create location-based ads on Maps starting summer 2026.

If you claimed your place card through Business Connect before, the same place card features now sit under the Apple Business name. If you never did, Apple Maps may still show your business using data from other sources, and you won't control what it says.

The other listings worth your time

Beyond Google, Bing and Apple, listings follow a law of diminishing returns. A short list covers most businesses:

  • Your industry's main directories, the ones customers in your field actually use.
  • Facebook, if your customers use it to check hours or message businesses.
  • Your chamber of commerce or trade association, which also tend to be trusted links.
  • Any platform where you already have reviews, so you can reply to them.

What you don't need is a paid service submitting you to hundreds of low-quality directories. We cover which citations still matter, and which don't, in local citations explained.

A one-afternoon setup plan

  1. Audit Google first. Confirm your name matches your signage, and check address, phone, hours, categories and website link.
  2. Claim Bing Places. Import from Google Business Profile, then review every field by hand.
  3. Claim your Apple place card through Apple Business. Add photos, hours and a logo.
  4. Set up Bing Webmaster Tools for your website and submit your sitemap.
  5. Write down your canonical details in one shared doc (exact name, address format, phone, hours, categories, short description) so every future listing matches.
  6. Put a reminder in your calendar to check all three every quarter and before every holiday.

What we'd do

For a single-location business, we'd do all six steps above in one sitting and enable Bing's sync with Google, then spot-check quarterly. For a multi-location business, we'd sync Bing in bulk only after a clean-up pass on Google, and we'd manage Apple listings per location. We cover the Google side of that in running Google Business Profiles for more than one location.

Frequently asked questions

Does Bing Places help me show up in ChatGPT?

It may help, but nobody outside OpenAI can promise it. OpenAI says it uses third-party search providers, and Bing is widely understood to be one of them. A complete, accurate Bing listing is cheap insurance.

Is Apple Business Connect still a thing?

Not by that name. Apple folded it into Apple Business, which launched in April 2026. Place cards, photos, showcases and insights are still how you manage your Apple Maps presence.

Will syncing with Google overwrite changes I make in Bing?

According to Bing Places support, changes in Google overwrite Bing Places data when you sync. If you need Bing-specific details, manage that listing manually instead.
